What is going to happen with the empty old cinema in the Market Place?
Local historian Mary Baldwin will be presenting a talk entitled “From Corn to Popcorn” on behalf of Ringwood Society at Greyfriars on Tuesday July 16th at 7.30pm. She will be tracing its history from its construction in 1868 as the town’s Town Hall and Corn Exchange, through its period as a cinema during the 20th century and subsequent life as a shopping mall and then night club. Throughout the 21st century it has remained empty as all plans have come to nothing. “Maybe this time something will happen.
When people are making decisions about the future of a property, I believe it is always important to first understand its past,’ says Mary.
Tickets priced £5 are available from Greyfriars or through Ticketsource but free to members of Ringwood Society. Look on Ringwood Society’s website for details of how to become a member.
